MVHR Repair in Manchester City Centre

Noisy fans, weak ventilation or an MVHR fault do not always mean the whole unit needs replacing. Domestic Air assesses and repairs suitable MVHR systems in Manchester apartments and managed residential buildings, helping property teams compare a practical repair with the cost of replacement.

Send us the model, symptoms and approximate number of affected units so we can advise on the next step.

Repair and refurbishment for suitable units

Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) systems contain several components that need to work together. Our starting point is to identify the fault and assess which parts are suitable to retain. Depending on the model and condition, the proposed work may include:

Fan-assembly refurbishment
Bearing renewal and Shaft work
Replacement controls or PCB
Bypass-actuator repairs
Seals and filters.

We agree workshop, removal and refitting arrangements with your site team. Replacement remains an option where repair is unsuitable. Scope, testing and warranty are set out in the quotation.

Fan-only refurbishment for isolated fan faults

An indicative two-fan refurbishment is £650 + VAT fitted: £300 for the fan pair plus a £350 fitting allowance.

Two new fans with the same labour allowance would be £1,100 + VAT, a £450 difference (40.9%).

These figures are derived from existing programme rates and require a site-specific quote. PCB, bypass actuator, seals and filters are excluded. Single-fan repairs are quoted separately.

Could repair reduce your replacement budget?

In an October 2026 Manchester programme quotation, refurbishment with a new main PCB was priced at £972.50 per unit. Complete replacement was priced at £2,195, including removal and fitting. That was a quoted difference of £1,222.50 per unit, or 55.7%, excluding VAT.

That broader package included both fan assemblies, a new PCB, actuator, sealing repairs, filters and fitting. It retained the fan windings and integral electronics, casing and heat exchanger. It is a site-specific quoted comparison, not a standard price or guaranteed saving. Scope, access and extra works affect the final cost.

Frequently Asked Questions.

We frequently receive enquiries about MVHR faults, repair options, refurbishment and whether a unit can be repaired rather than replaced.

To help, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about MVHR repair in Manchester city centre. If you can’t find the information you need, send us your MVHR model, fault details and building postcode and we’ll advise on the next step.

Can my MVHR be repaired rather than replaced?

Often a fault can be addressed by repairing or renewing specific components, but suitability depends on the exact model and condition. We assess the equipment before recommending a scope.

Do you repair Vent-Axia MVHR units?

We have experience of repair and refurbishment work involving Vent-Axia systems. Send a photograph of the model plate so we can confirm whether we can support that particular unit. This does not imply manufacturer-authorised status.

Why is my MVHR noisy or not ventilating properly?

Possible causes include worn fan components, contamination, filters, controls or bypass faults. A diagnosis is needed; the same symptom can have different causes.

How much does MVHR repair cost?

We quote for the identified work. Model, parts, access, workshop requirements and the number of units affect the price. Our example compares one defined programme scope; it is not a price list.

Can you work across an occupied apartment block?

We can discuss a phased approach with the building team, including resident access and any workshop or stock-rotation arrangements. The programme and downtime are agreed for the site.

How long will a refurbished unit last?

Remaining service life depends on the retained components, operating duty and maintenance. We explain the repair scope and warranty in the quotation rather than promise a fixed number of additional years.
